Medicare Accreditation

Jeff and his staff are helping pharmacies and home health care centers to secure accreditation so they can bill for Medicare fees after the September 30th 2009 deadline.

Our programs are easy to follow and understand.

We will work with you to incorporate complex federal mandates into your current Policies and Procedures.

Well crafted Policies and Procedures are the key to achieving accreditation.

We provide you with the training you need to prepare you for the accreditation process.

We validate that your staff understands the Policies and Procedures and are prepared for accreditation site surveys.

Once all requirements are met, we help you choose the best accreditation service based on your needs.

We complete all applications needed for the accreditation service and Medicare.

We provide other services, as required, until your accreditation process is complete.

1. Does my pharmacy need accredited?
a. If you wish to continue to bill Medicare Part B claims, then your facility needed to be accredited by one of the 10 approved accrediting organizations prior to December 31, 2009.

b. Insurance companies have implemented all, or parts, of the Medicare Quality Standards such as: Fraud, Waste & Abuse, Conflict of Interest, Medicare Exclusion Verification protocols for plan participation.

CMS is providing confusing information and changing information daily. The only thing certain is that accreditation is here to stay and the requirements will grow. Everyone must evaluate their own operation and make an informed decision. However, in Jeff Hedges’ opinion is that before the year 2011 every pharmacy will be required to be accredited by CMS, or the insurance companies, or both.

2. How much time does accreditation take?
Typically the process will take 6 months from start to finish.

3. Are there off-the-shelf programs available?
Yes, there are several programs available for purchase. These programs require you to write your own pharmacy procedures for each Medicare policy.

4. Is HIPAA part of Medicare Accreditation?
Yes, HIPAA is a major component of the Quality Standard.

5. What statute regulates accreditation?
Medicare Quality Standard.

6. Is there anyone that can help prepare our pharmacy/medical supply company for Medicare Accreditation?
Yes. R.J. Hedges & Associates prepares your policies and procedures for your operation. The HIPAA Guy™ and his staff are well versed in preparing government documentation and taking complicated requirements and converting them into easy to follow procedures that integrate into your work practices.
